Wards are electoral areas which sit within Local Authorities. Each ward is represented by one or more councillors. The ward is the primary unit of electoral geography for the UK. Each ward on average has an electorate of 5,500 people, but population counts will vary. There are currently 9,456 electoral wards in the UK
