HMRC Import Export data including company details
The HMRC Import, Export data provides insights on goods being transferred between non-EU countries. This includes the name of the transacting company along with the category of goods as defined in the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC).
This approach allows countries to compare import and export data using standard classifications.
For ease of use the HMRC use the Combined Nomenclature (CN) to classify goods in their data releases. To protect commercially sensitive data where a specific category code has less than 3 active importers or exporters for a given month, the companies name will only be reported against the parent category (CN chapter level).
A full list of the category codes and descriptions being used is available in our HMRC Commodity Codes article.
Our Import data (started in January 2015) lists the company numbers of the businesses that have imported goods from non-EU countries in the given month, together with the category of goods.
The Export data (Started in January 2016) lists the company numbers of the businesses that have exported goods to non-EU countries in the given month, together with the category of goods.
Please note that with the UK due to leave the EU the data being published will probably change over the coming months.
